ParkIt Mobile Application
Sharing Idle Parking Spaces — One Tap at a Time
Premise
ParkIt is a peer-to-peer parking marketplace app that transforms underutilized private parking spaces into bookable inventory. Two parallel user flows run through the same data layer: parkers discover and reserve nearby spots via an interactive map, while owners list availability, manage bookings, track earnings, and set up payouts. The frontend is built with Expo SDK 51 (React Native + TypeScript + TailwindCSS / NativeWind) and the backend runs on a self-contained Express server backed by PostgreSQL on Neon.tech — with JWT auth, email confirmations via SendGrid, and photo uploads integrated.
Reasoning
Urban parking is grossly inefficient: driveways, lots, and garages sit empty while drivers circle for hours. The gap isn’t supply — it’s discoverability. A peer-to-peer marketplace lets anyone turn a spare space into income while reducing traffic congestion and emissions caused by circling. This project explores the full-stack challenge of building trust (photo-verified profiles, dual-sided ratings), handling payments and payouts at scale, and creating maps that help people find opportunity literally around the corner.
